10:30AM – Westwood | Kawakubo Exhibition
National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne
We will attend the major international exhibition featuring:
- Vivienne Westwood
- Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons
This exhibition explores radical design, silhouette innovation, and cultural commentary from two of the most influential designers of the modern era.
For image consultants working at the intersection of identity, self-expression, and visual authority, this is a rare opportunity to experience conceptual fashion at museum scale.

A short 7-minute walk from NGV brings us to lunch along the Yarra River.
Over authentic Italian cuisine, we will debrief the exhibition, exchange professional insights, and discuss how conceptual fashion influences client work in the real world.
1:30PM onwards – Guided Shopping Walk
Melbourne CBD
We’ll conclude with a curated retail walk through the Melbourne CBD, beginning at Flinders Street and finishing at Melbourne Emporium.
The route has been thoughtfully mapped to include a mix of Melbourne-based labels and key retail destinations.
This is an opportunity to:
- Observe trends in real time
- Discuss retail strategy and merchandising
- Share client case studies
- And, of course… shop alongside other image consultants.

FAQs
Do members get a different ticket price?
Yes. If you’re a current AICI member (Australia chapter or another chapter), you may access the member ticket rate when you book. Non-members must book the general rate. If you’re not sure of your membership status, please reach out before purchasing.
Do I need to book accommodation?
Yes, this is a two-day event across the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Many guests are staying at the Gold Coast on Friday and Saturday night, then travelling to Brisbane on Sunday.
Where should I stay on the Gold Coast?
Broadbeach is probably your best bet and has many great options. It’s central, stylish, and close to Pacific Fair. The Star Casino is directly across the road from Pacific Fair. The Sofitel Broadbeach is another good option, just a 10-minute walk away.
How do I get from the airport to my hotel?
Uber is the easiest and most common choice. Taxis and hotel-specific shuttle buses are also available. You can fly into either Gold Coast or Brisbane, depending on your preference. Several out-of-towners are flying into the Gold Coast and then departing from Brisbane the next day.
A door-to-door shared Shuttle Service (Con-X-ion) from the airport to most major Gold Coast hotels is another option. See their website to book: https://www.con-x-ion.com/
How do I get between the Gold Coast and Brisbane?
You can take the Airtrain from Gold Coast stations (e.g. Helensvale or Nerang) to Brisbane Central. It’s comfortable and runs regularly (you’ll need to catch an Uber or taxi to the train station). See their website: https://airtrain.com.au/
For confident drivers, there are car hire options you can arrange from the airport.
Most attendees are planning to use a rideshare, such as Uber, Ola, DiDi, and Shebah (female-only rideshare). Some guests have managed to arrange their own ride with a fellow attendee.
If you are staying at more premier accommodation, you may like to ask your hotel in case they offer further options.
Do I need to organise to/from transport over the event weekend myself?
Yes, you will need to organise your own transport and transfers across the weekend. There is a free Pacific Fair shuttle from some hotels, or you can use rideshare (e.g., Uber), taxi or public transport. Otherwise you may need to hire a car from the airport for the weekend.
What’s the weather like in August in South East Queensland?
Typically sunny and mild, although rain is always a possibility. Expect daytime temperatures around 21°C and cooler evenings. Having a light jacket or jumper handy should cover all bases.
Can I just come for one day?
Absolutely! This curated experience was designed to have flexible attendance options for everyone’s needs.
What do I need to bring?
Keep it comfortable, smart casual and a little stylish;-) Flat shoes and cross body bag are recommended for the shopping tour.
Will I be shopping during the tour?
You’ll definitely have opportunities to shop! The tour is guided, educational, and full of discovery. We’re hoping you discover some unexpected finds and clever lessons. It’s more than just a browse. But of course, you are welcome to shop as we go… and get your fellow image consultants’ opinions on potential purchases!
Is this suitable if I haven’t trained as an image consultant yet?
Yes! Whether you’ve worked as a stylist before or not, this weekend is designed to meet you where you’re at. This may inspire you to further develop your style clarity. Note that non-member rates apply.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, we love that. Just make sure they register separately at the appropriate rate to secure their place.
What if I change my mind and can’t attend anymore?
We understand that circumstances change. However, tickets are non-refundable due to third-party commitments. This policy allows us to secure quality experiences while keeping prices as accessible as possible.
